Inside your soul, something tells you that there is a life you were created for. We don’talways recognize its voice, but the longings for something real or spiritually richer, deeper and more compelling are not something we should ignore, but rather lean into. Those longings are often the preparation for God to awaken something in us to a worldof possibilities. The spiritually dead religious environment of Jesus’ day was the perfectspiritual vacuum for his message to resonate and awaken people to a life with God forwhich they had longed. It is into that context that Jesus shared so much about how Godworks as he talked about “the kingdom of heaven” through parables. These were notjust for them, because God wants to awaken something inside of each of us.

In 1 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul writes to a group of believers trying to navigate a new way of living after experiencing God’s grace. They came from very different backgrounds, yet shared the same struggle: how to live faithfully in a world that pulls them in other directions.
That tension is still real today. Faithfulness isn’t just a one-time decision—it’s a daily choice to trust and follow God. The good news is that while we are called to choose, God also provides help every step of the way.

Paul’s life was driven by one clear goal: bringing glory to God by helpingpeople come to know Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 9, Paul explains how he waswilling to adjust his preferences, build common ground with people, and livewith intentional discipline so that others could hear the gospel and live a lifethat glorifies God.
This passage challenges us to consider how our own lives reflect that samemission. If people matter to God, then the way we live, love, and interact withothers matters too. Take some time to discuss/contemplate three key lessonsfrom Paul about why pursuing God’s glory and people’s salvation is “worth itfor the one.”
